This commercial strawberry farm is just outside George past the airport and is a great place to spend the day with your family. George Museum

The stately building in which the George Museum is situated was once the Drostdy and dates back to 1811. The museum itself was established many decades later in 1967 and is, to a large degree, dedicated to the timber industry, which was the financial foundation of George and the Garden Route.

Its aim is to educate locals and visitors about the history and heritage of this part of the country, and how it affects the Western Cape of today. To this end, a large part of the museum is dedicated to the old tools and implements used in the timber trade of long ago, as well as a stunning yellowwood remake of the woodcutter’s cottage. In addition, there is a section for the planting of indigenous trees.

George Wildlife Park – George

The George Wildlife Park is home to a number of happy and healthy animals.

Some of the resident farm animals at the George Wildlife Park include pigs, bunnies, chickens, geese and dwarf goats. Visitors can view these animals and even have the opportunity to feed them. At the Predator Park at the George Wildlife Park visitors can view 2 Bengal tigers, 2 cheetahs, 2 servals and 2 caracals. At each enclosure visitors will find a board with interesting facts about these animals. School groups and other groups are welcome and tours can be arranged for these visits.

Feeding time for the Bengal tigers is at 14:00 daily. Make sure you are at the George Wildlife Park between 1 and 2 for the feeding tours.

Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre – George

A visit to the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre is great family friendly attraction. Avid birders, people looking for things to do in the area and young children with inquisitive minds will all find a visit to this rehab centre extremely educational and interesting. The centre does rehabilitation of all raptors and you will learn more about the rescue, rehabilitation and the conservation of falcons, eagles and owls. During your visit to the centre your guide will introduce you to between 30 and 40 different raptors.

Victoria Heights Animal and Reptile Park

The park is between George and Wilderness and houses a large variety of reptiles in their natural habitats. Among the reptiles, there are Anacondas of more than 5 meters long, Cobras, Rattle Snakes, Bullfrogs, “Boomslange” and Leguaans. The Reptile Park is also home to a talking crow, small birds, monkeys and farm animals like goats and rabbits and more in the touch farm!
There is a Super Tube of 8,5 meters high. The Super Tube and picnic area are perfect for those hot days! Picnic tables and umbrellas are placed around the Super Tube. Braai facilities available! Open 7 days a week from 9:30 to 17:00

Outeniqua Transport Museum and Outeniqua Powervan

Experience a day down memory lane and visit the Outeniqua Transport Museum where you can see many different old steam trains.

Inside the museum is a variety of 13 steam locomotives, including a narrow gauge, the Emil Kessler- Johannesburg’s first steam locomotive, the impressive GL Garrett together with carriages from a bygone era, such as a coach from the Royal Train of 1947, Paul Kruger’s coach and private saloons, just to name a few, are on display.
A photo gallery depicting some of the most breath-taking photos of South African steam can be seen, poetry relating to train travel, crockery and cutlery previously used on main line trains and in station restaurants are on display.

The Powervan offers a unique experience where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Garden Route. Departure and arrivals are from the Outeniqua Transform Museum. The trip offers an enjoyable ride for the entire family.

Perdepoort Horse Trails

These trails are situated in Wilderness heights, 6km from the village. They offer rides on a beautiful 65ha private farm. The trail takes you through the indigenous forest where one passes a giant 400-year-old yellowwood tree watching over the forest. Children and novice riders are safe, and the more experienced riders can have lots of fun trotting and cantering! Bookings are essential and rides go out at 10:00 and 15:00 every day, weather permitting.
